The Green Party of Virginia endorses and publicly supports the Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality Day After Action Demonstration as stated here by the Defenders:
As part of the global antiwar and anti-imperialist movement, the Antiwar Committee of the Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality is calling on activists in Virginia to prepare for emergency “day-after” protests in the event of a U.S. or U.S.-ordered military attack on Iran or any other country.
With Trump out of the White House, the risk of a direct strike against Iran may have gone down, but the long-term threat that our government poses against Iran and its people has increased. Unlike Trump, who was driven by ego and greed, Biden is ideologically committed to U.S. global dominance. In 2003, while serving as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Biden voted for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force, which allowed the Bush administration's 2003 invasion of Iraq -- though during his 2020 presidential campaign he claimed several times to have been against the war “from the moment it began.”
Biden served as vice-president for eight years while the Obama administration vastly expanded the drone warfare program, continued the occupation of Iraq, and led a NATO campaign that devastated Libya, another oil-rich country which had nationalized much of its production. Now that he is president, Biden's administration has announced its intention to continue several Trump foreign policy decisions, including recognizing the unelected, right-wing claimant to the Venezuelan presidency, Juan Guaidó, and to affirm occupied Jerusalem as Israel's capital city.
With Biden's record on war, we can't afford to let our guard down -- and our sisters and brothers in the Middle East and around the world can't afford for us to do so either.
