Green Party of Virginia Calls for Immediate Legalization of Marijuana Possession and Use Calls on Members to Lobby General Assembly

The Green Party of Virginia (GPVA) calls on the General Assembly to approve Governor Ralph Northam's proposed amendment to the marijuana legalization bills passed that would move up the schedule for legalization of possession and use of marijuana from January 1, 2024 to July 1, 2021. We call on members of the GPVA to contact their members of the General Assembly and demand approval of this amendment, prior to the session on April 7th when they will consider the Governor's proposed amendments to bills.

GPVA Co-Chair Ryan Wesdock said, "The legalization of marijuana is an obvious step in the right direction for Virginia that will help reduce the costly, counterproductive, and racist War on Drugs. There is no justification for delaying legalization for possession and use of marijuana for additional three years. The Green Party has been a leading voice in fighting for marijuana legalization nationally, and we call for all Virginia Greens to continue this fight by demanding the General Assembly approve this common sense amendment."
